
Walk, bike and day out routes
I started my career by mapping out, writing and photographing bike routes, walking routes and active day out articles for local town and county magazines. I remember the publisher, now a good friend, replying to my email asking if I could do work experience for the company:
"Good CV. We are just a cottage industry. Nothing as exciting as TRAIL magazine. Perhaps you could write something for us?"
And that's where it all began. Nowadays I mainly write routes for Country Walking, TGO and BBC Countryfile magazines.

Snowdonia, peering out from under the
battened-down hood of my downy and
crunching snow under crampons. The
mountains were busy; an activity frenzy
while winter conditions lasted, and I
experienced a pang for vivid colours – and

finger of North Wales pointing far into the
sea; clear days here reveal the mountains
of Snowdonia, Anglesey, the whole of
